Dr. Harshbir Rana is the founder and CEO of POSITIVE AGED, an organisation that provides consultancy services for the aged. POSITIVE AGED works collaboratively with the aged and their caretakers to provide optimal solutions for aging and aged persons. It also consults with organisations and individuals working for the welfare of the aged. Caretaker training is also provided.
Dr. Rana's passion for understanding various aspects of healthy aging first led her to study "Issues Related to Aged Women: Case Studies of Old Age Homes" in 1988. She pursued her passion by embarking upon her doctorate study, titled"Socio-Cultural and Psychological Aspects of Aging – A Study in Delhi", from the Delhi University and obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2011.
She received her B.Sc.degree from the Institute of Home Economics, Delhi University(1983-1986) and followed it up with a Masters degree in Community Resource Management and Extension Work from Lady Irwin College, Delhi University(1986-1988). She has also received her Masters degree in Sociology from Indira Gandhi Open University(2010-2013).
Since 2012, Dr. Rana has been taking theory classes for various institutes where aging is taught, namely, the National Institute of Social Defence and Institute of Home Economics. She has addressed the aged at various forums – Senior Citizen Forums, RWAs and activity centres for the aged.
She was the cheif speaker at the 20th Sri. A.P. Dewan Memorial Lecture 2024. She has been keynote speaker in a number of conferences for the aged as well as part of round-table conference to discuss the issues of policy planning for the aged.
She consultes for individual aged as well as their family members on problems faced by them. She also consultes with individuals and corporates planning to open services for the aged.
Dr. Rana also had a dedicated page called helpline in the magazine harmony celebrate age in which she tackled problem faced by the aged and offers solutions and reason for the same.
